Independence, Missouri was founded in 1827. The city got its start due to the high demands of fur at that time, serving as the farthest western port on the Missouri River for fur trading. Independence also served as the starting point for the Oregon Trail, the California and Santa Fe trails, leading to the city being referred to as the "Queen City of the Trails." Today Independence is perhaps best known as the hometown of President Harry S. Truman. There are plenty of sites in the area to visit that are dedicated to Harry Truman such as his childhood home, the Harry S Truman National Historic Site and the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum. Dueling Pianos International is available for show bookings in Independence, Missouri and the surrounding area!
