Erie, founded in 1795, is the fifth largest city in Pennsylvania with a population of over 90,000 people. The city was named for Lake Erie and the Eriez Native Americans who once inhabited the area. Erie is also part of the Lake Erie Grape Belt, a 50 mile region in Pennsylvania that grows concord grapes, making Erie a great place to be if you enjoy visiting a good winery! The Erie Art Museum has a collection of over 8,000 objects from all over the world to be viewed, and the expERIEnce Children's Museum can be found right around the corner for an interactive experience. The city also has a zoo filled with over 400 animals and over 600 plant species, an indoor water park called the Splash Lagoon, theatres, arcades and a diverse range of great restaurants to satisfy one's appetite.
